Karoo to Coast

Long weekend and both kids had their own adventures planned away from home. Perfect time for me and my wife to go on a small adventure of our own with the motorcycle. With two and a half free days, I decided to first head to the karoo and then to the coast.

Twenty years ago, while on honeymoon, we one night slept in the Lord Milner hotel in Matjiesfontein. This little town is full of history and museums. Call it a trip down memory lane.

First coffee-stop at Touwsrivier:

Matjiesfontein:

In Lainsburg we grabbed some Steers hot chicken and rode out of town until we found the first roadside stop. (without the tree)

We were heading for a place called Koedoeskloof near Ladysmith. Gravel road and wide open spaces.

Next morning it was time to head for the coast. Ladysmith to Riversdal via Garcia Pass.
One of the most beautiful passes in the country.
Just outside Riversdal we stopped at the Bali Trading Shop.

Found this cute little enamel soup bowl:

From now it will go with on bike trips:

Also had some great cheesecake and coffee.

If I rode a Harley maybe ??

We then went to Jongensfontein and stayed the night with friends Ruan and Lucille who rented a place there for the weekend.
