Veggie Garden at Cave
This year I tried my hand at a Veggie Garden
The soil next to the cave is bad, like in high percentage clay and badly drained.
I searched the farm scrapyard for any "containers" to plant the veggies in that can be filled with good soil. Found off-cut PVC pipes, old tires and other usable stuff. Filled everything with a combination of potting soil, compost and in some cases, sand.
I bought most of the seed from the "SEEDS FOR AFRICA" website and the rest from my local Kaap Agri store. Seeds for Africa had some interesting stuff I had to test: Honeynut Butternut that only grow as big as your hand, Blue Shelling Peas, Patio Cucumber and Baby Corn. All plants were grown from seed in a seed tray. Probably wont go that route again with the bigger seed plants; just plant seed straight into container.

Matjiesvlei Rivercamp
Matjiesvlei Rivercamp is situated on a working farm near Calitzdorp. It's an off grid camp with no electricity or cellphone reception, but with very neat and clean ablution facilities and a "donkie" for hot water showers.
Perfect timing to test out our newly purchased 1994 Sprite Scout Gravelroader. I got the Scout kitted out with a deep cycle battery, some LED lights, replaced wheel bearings and borrowed a spare wheel. Set to go !
Arriving on the farm, we saw this mother ostrich with her cute chics
The road down to the Rivercamp was a bit rough, but with slow negotiation we got there in one piece.
Me and Ruhan looking and planning the right spot to set up camp:
Setting up in sand is not that easy !
Finally settled in and it looked like a proper-se campsite now.
Time for a cold one ! Flying Fish was the official drink of the weekend.
Prepping food and relaxing
After a night of heavy wind and securing ropes and tents frequently, everything were quiet in the morning and Lucille and me made a bonfire.
I decided to make some Pita breads . . . . @teenagersarehungryallthetime
Not a sight you see everyday . . . . boys doing the dishes !!
Fly-fishing in Calitzdorp dam for yellowfish:
Fishing in the Gamka river at the campsite:
Adults playing a game of Pentanque Bocce (Boje)
One evening went for a little jog . . . nice views
We also went with Ruhan's Land Cruiser on the farm's 4x4 route. Easy peasy ! Even Nelmari, who hates 4x4, enjoyed the outing thoroughly !!
Came across this character; trapped himself on top of a "spekboom"
On the 4x4 outing we saw a little dwelling on a flat top hill. Next evening, Lucille and me took a walk to go inspect. Seems like somebody go "braai" there once in a while. More beautiful views to photograph !
On the last evening, the Grot-kids put together a game of touchies.
