Wilde Makou Classic 2017

It was all for a good cause. Farmers open their land for hunters to come shoot some "wilde makou" for a day in the Porterville/Eendekuil area. These birds damage the wheat and canola crops of the farmers and are considered pests. Hunters make a small donation to the farmers private little school for the privilege of doing some awesome hunting.

Old friend and grotman Hanno, got me and Tiaan invited to this day. It was absolutely wonderful and we made great new friends (Vaughan, Willem and Wouter)  Anton & Hammie Mouton and oupa Vic were our hosts to an all shooting, eating and fantastic "kuier" day.

Our bakkie was HOT HOT HOT . . . . and few got away !
Me, Tiaan and Hanno did the shooting.
Anton was the driver and Attie and little Andre help with spotting and opening gates.
O yes, and Attie kept us hydrated with some sweet wine out of a "blik beker"

Anton's son Andre, helping to gather shot birds. Call this photo  "Blue Angel"

Hanno was cooking on the long range shots and made 2 great kills at 380 + meters.
His setup is sorted and very precise ! (My brother in arms !)

Myself shot a couple of Egyptian Geese, but had to wait till the end of day for my "Wilde Makou" to take a bakkie ride. Our Howa 243 didn't disappoint and the new 87gr V-Max bullets made spectacular kills.

All birds shot were donated to the farm workers and nothing got wasted.

Victor also organised us a surprise "Klei Duif" shoot. Great fun with Tiaan kicking ass with the shotgun !!

The legend himself: Victor Calitz

Hammie and her mother made us an excellent wild game potjie for lunch !
We all ate too much !!
The hospitality were incredible and we "kuier"ed like old friends !

Spectacular views all day but especially at sunset.

We overnight at Goedemanskraal Guesthouse.

"Dop en Chop"
Willem you are an excellent cook !
This is Kudu and Sprigbuck steaks:

Some people took a power nap halfway . . . .

. . . BUT, at 03H00 rose and got a second wind !!

Lazarus !!!

We left with a song in our hearts and thanked the CREATOR for our blessings.
