Trailrunning the Cogmanskloof Hiking Trail

Since September 2016 I was jogging on and off. Coming from VERY unfit, like jogging 100m and walking 200m, very slowly building up the fitness. David joined me in the beginning of 2017 and we decided that we seriously wanna do some trail running this year. We started by running 3-5 km per day. The past Sunday we decided to try a real trail run and went for a 10 km run on the Cogmanskloof Hiking Trail. This hiking trail is very tough for running, VERY steep and lots of lose stones and most of the way we had to walk. We did the best we could and thoroughly enjoyed it !

Found this nice app on my cellphone, Runkeeper. GPS track your whole route.

The elevation chart confirms the steep climbs and descents.

This was definitely a legs workout !!

Shooting Springbok Shelter

On Zandvliet was about 60 Springboks on an open piece of land. This will have to be planted with citrus in the near future. Most of the Springboks were capture alive and relocated to other farmers. A handful were left over; the ones to bright to get captured by nets. Unfortunately we had to shoot the remaining ones.

I got this idea to build a small shelter to shoot from. The kids loved helping with this. It started with 3 old farm gates.

Then we start cutting some of the natural surrounding bushes and add them on the gates.

Was great fun and the kids enjoyed building it with me.
In the end, it was not necessary to shoot from the hide, but we had it for backup.

Next day the last springboks were culled:
